About
Mercedes Plessmann’s passion for the environment and well-being has inspired her to better understand concepts that improve public health. She is committed to educating herself about the materials and chemical health effects of the mediums used in her practice to ensure that her projects have a holistic vision. She believes it is every designer’s responsibility to dissect and investigate the life-cycle effects of the products specified in a project. She believes that art, design, and sustainable strategies can elevate our environments and promote a sense of pride and well-being for everyone.
Mercedes works as an Interior Designer at Nelson Worldwide. She is also a visual artist with a focus on painting and sculpture. She earned a B.A. in Studio Art and Spanish Literature at Tulane University, and later earned an M.F.A. in Interior Design at Parsons.
Her career in art and design began as a Display Coordinator at Anthropologie. In this role she designed and constructed merchandising display. As an Interior Designer she has expanded the breadth of her portfolio to workplace, healthcare, affordable/supportive housing, education, and mixed-use project typologies.
She aspires to highlight the links between human health and the environment and hopes the industry will inspire legislation to follow suit.
Her work aims to encourage the dialogue of these themes.
"...Yo vengo de todas partes,
Y hacia todas partes voy:
Arte soy entre las artes,
En los montes, monte soy..."
